In this particular study we find that 1,000 IU / day is not enough to affect bone in teenage girls that are Vitamin D deficient. This tells me that they should be on at LEAST 4,000 IU / day to affect bone. Unfortunately, it’s going to take several decades before everyone catches up with the research and starts recommending real levels of supplementation.
